Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers Shares Heartfelt Message for Ex-HC Mike Tomlin

Following his forgettable two-year stint with the New York Jets, nobody would have blamed quarterback Aaron Rodgers for retiring and riding off into the sunset.
After all, he has nothing left to prove. His resume, which includes four MVPs, 10 Pro Bowls, five All-Pro selections, a Super Bowl championship and Super Bowl MVP, is already Hall of Fame-worthy.
But Rodgers couldn’t pass up the chance to play last season for head coach Mike Tomlin — a man he clearly respects and holds in high regard.
And though Tomlin parted ways with the Steelers this offseason after 19 seasons — a run that included a 193-14-2 record, 13 playoff appearances, eight division titles, three AFC Championship Game appearances, two Super Bowl appearances, a Super Bowl championship, and zero losing seasons — Rodgers is grateful for the time he played under Tomlin in 2025.
“I’m thankful for last year with coach Tomlin because he helped me get that love back, that deep love back for the game,” Rodgers told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Tearing my Achilles, and going through a year of rehab, and just never feeling like myself — it just kind of beats you up a little bit. I didn’t want that to be my ending in the game I love so much.
“Mike and being around the guys got me that love back, and I was content in walking away, and then they hired Mike McCarthy. And then I was like, ‘OK, maybe we need a full-circle [moment] here — me and Mike (McCarthy) need a full-circle here.”
Rodgers has a long history with McCarthy.
The two spent 13 seasons together with the Green Bay Packers. They combined for a 98-55-1 record, nine playoff wins, and a Super Bowl championship.
