In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed he had “settled 8 Wars” and was close to “settling, or win[ning], two more” — arguing that his record made him more deserving of the honor than this year’s recipient, South African jurist Navi Pillay.
Trump cited a range of achievements he said should have earned him the prize, including his administration’s operation to capture Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, efforts to secure the return of Israeli hostages held by Hamas and US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Maduro is now facing narco-terrorism charges in New York .
President Trump on once again trashed the Norwegian Nobel Committee for denying him the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he “settled 8 wars,” seized Nicolas Maduro of Venezuala, and stopped Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. AFP via Getty Images He posted that he “won a war in Venezuela, and captured the violent dictator who so viciously ran that country, and stopped the number one state sponsor of terror, the Islamic Republic of Iran, from obtaining a Nuclear Weapon — AND MUCH MORE! Yet, with all of that I, or the United States of America, did not get the Noble Peace Prize. WOW!”
Trump said Thursday that the US won’t be attacking Iran before the midterm elections next month.
Trump also criticized Pillay during an appearance in Syracuse on Friday, calling the decision to award her the prize a “stain” on Norway and saying the honor had been “forever discredited.”
On Friday in Syracuse, the president trashed Pillay — a fromer UN High Commissioner for Human Rights — and said the decision to give it to her was a “stain” on Norway and “forever discredited” the prize. He called her a “mystery person” and a “liberal person who works at the United Nations.”
Pillay is a former judge on the UN’s International Criminal Court and helped craft a a UN report that found Israel committed ”genocide” in Gaza.
South African-born jurist and former U.N. human rights chief Navanethem “Navi” Pillay was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The US has sanctioned the International Criminal Court, where she served as a judge. Daniel Karmann/DPA via AP Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced sanctions on the ICC Friday, calling it a “rogue court,” saying the US and its military members aren’t subject to its jurisdiction.
“The Nobel prize was given out today to a liberal person who works at the United Nations who nobody has ever heard of,” Trump said in Syracuse. “I’ve never heard of the person. I know a lot of people – I’ve never heard of this particular person, but congratulations anyway.
He added: “The United States of America, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize but didn’t. And this is an indelible stain on the country of Norway and those people that made such a disgraceful and embarrassing decision. The Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and really enemies of civilization.”
