El Sayed delivers Islamic socialism to Michigan Democrats

The socialist takeover of the Democratic Party officially came to the Midwest this week when the son of Egyptian immigrants, Abdul el Sayed , eked out a narrow victory over establishment candidate Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) in the primary race to succeed retiring Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI).
El Sayed had released internal polling numbers showing him up by double digits over Stevens days before the campaign ended, but it appears el Sayed’s focus on the demonization of Israel was not as appealing to traditional Democratic primary voters as he had hoped.
To be sure, the white, college-educated voters of Kent and Washtenaw counties overwhelmingly chose el Sayed by almost 20 points, but the more traditional working-class counties of Wayne and Monroe went for Stevens, although by much smaller margins. All told, el Sayed won by 48.5%-47.5% over Stevens, with state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, who endorsed el Sayed, taking 4% of the vote.
El Sayed made Israel the central focus of his campaign, repeatedly attacking Stevens for supporting U.S. military assistance to Israel and portraying her as beholden to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, whose affiliated super PAC spent heavily on her behalf.
Israel, el Sayed claimed throughout the campaign, is an “evil,” “rogue state” that has “committed genocide and apartheid.” When asked whether a Democrat could also support Zionism, the belief in Jewish self-determination in the Jewish people’s ancestral homeland, el Sayed said: “Every definition of a Jewish state ends in some articulation of illiberal values. Every single one.”
El Sayed is not a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, but he shares its belief that our nation’s founding is every bit as evil as Israel’s. Campaigning with DSA member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) this July, el Sayed said the United States was “founded on the removal of a whole people.”
This echoes New York DSA candidate Aber Kawas, the daughter of Palestinian immigrants, who said America deserved 9/11 because “a lot of us come from lands that were colonized, lands where wars are being waged.”
“Whether it is July 4th, Thanksgiving, Veterans, Columbus, or now Labor Day,” Kawas continued, “we enjoy days off that are supposed to be victories for people, when they truly represent the silencing and destruction of our movements.”
And in Wisconsin, DSA gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong has said we should “cancel Thanksgiving” because “we should stop celebrating colonialism and the original superspreader event that killed Indigenous folks and women.”
When he isn’t peddling the ethnic grievances of his Egyptian parents, el Sayed busies himself promoting the failed economic policies of Islamic socialist regimes across the Third World. According to his own website, el Sayed supports socialized medicine, socialized childcare, socialized education, government-guaranteed income for every adult whether they work or not, government ownership of technology companies, and, of course, a wealth tax to pay for it all.
Michigan Democrats have now nominated a candidate who combines the DSA’s hostility toward America and Israel with an economic program imported from the world’s most dysfunctional socialist states. El Sayed may have won only narrowly, but his victory confirms how far the Democratic Party has moved from the working-class voters it once claimed to represent.
Michigan general election voters must now decide whether ethnic grievance, antisemitism, and Islamic socialism are what they want to send to the U.S. Senate.
