The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers kick off the 2026 preseason with their Hall of Fame Game clash on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC, and Week 1 of the preseason officially kicks off the following week on Aug. 13.
As we count down the days until the start of the NFL regular season — which kicks off with a Super Bowl LX rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots on “Sunday Night Football” on Sept. 9 — we continue to look at key offseason storylines for each of the league’s 32 teams.
This week, we’re looking as the players most in danger of being cut during the preseason, and we’ve arrived at the Kansas City Chiefs .
Wide receiver is arguably the biggest area of need for the Chiefs heading into camp, and some are convinced the team will either sign a veteran wideout like Deebo Samuel or Stefon Diggs, or trade for a pass-catcher to help offset some of the burden currently on Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice’s shoulders.
The team added a pair of rookies from Cincinnati in Cyrus Allen and Jeff Caldwell, but they were the only somewhat notable additions after losing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster to free agency.
Remigio has been with the team for two seasons and has just three catches and 69 yards to show for it. If the Chiefs do add another WR, Remigio will likely be one of the first players cut to make room.
It’s long been wondered who will be the heir apparent to Travis Kelce in Kansas City, but it doesn’t look like Briningstool is it. After signing with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent last year, Briningstool has done nothing to make himself stand out.
With several other depth players in place, including Noah Gray, Mason Pline, Jared Wiley, Tre Watson, John Michael Gyllenborg, it’s hard to see Briningstool winning a spot on this 53-man roster.
This one may be a little bit of a shock, especially because Anudike-Uzomah is a former first-round pick. But two years into his career, and Anudike-Uzomah hasn’t made much of an impact and he missed the entire 2025 season due to injury.
Kansas City drafted R Mason Thoms out of Oklahoma in Round 2 of April’s draft, and he likely will get a lot of reps and playing time opposite George Karlaftis as a rookie. Beyond that, Ashton Gillotte, Tyreke Smith, Vincent Anthony Jr., and Anthony Dunn Jr. all are presumably ahead of Anudike-Uzomah on the depth chart at this point.
