Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston was the model of stability for much of her college career at South Carolina and in the WNBA until she missed time with a lower leg injury earlier this season.
The former No. 1 overall pick was seen clutching her knee during the second quarter of the Fever's game against the Seattle Storm in Seattle on Tuesday night, July 28. Boston, who had 11 points when she suffered the injury, did not return to the game, which the Fever won 105-95 to improve to 18-10 on the season.
On Tuesday night, Fever head coach Stephanie White revealed Boston was held out of the rest of the game because they thought it "wasn't really worth the risk" to have her play in the second half.
White did not have an official update on Boston's health, but didn't seem overly worried about her status moving forward. With the star forward out, Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark, who combined for 60 points, both stepped up to deliver the 10-point win.
"I think it says a lot about our culture," Mitchell said of the Fever's ability to thrive without Boston. "I think Steph has been hammering that home since our training camp started. Obviously, you don't want to see a person like AB go down in any capacity, but I think that next-man-up mentality kind of gives people the confidence to go and be who they are."
Indiana will get two nights off before a battle against the Portland Fire on July 31.
