Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has been tied to several big names ahead of the trade deadline, but nothing materialized as of that morning. MassLive's Sean McAdam reported that there remained a sense behind closed doors that the organization is going big-game hunting, however, with there being interest in long-term options at shortstop, catcher, the starting rotation, and the bullpen.
It'll remain to be seen which position is prioritized.

Boston was linked to Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz , Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman , Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto , Miami Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez , and San Francisco Giants second baseman Luis Arraez , though the latter was acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
The New York Yankees made something of a splash by adding first baseman/designated hitter Luis Garcia Jr. and the Tampa Bay Rays did the same by trading for starting pitcher Freddy Peralta, so the pressure is on if they want to compete for the American League East. The Los Angeles Dodgers also did their thing by swinging the biggest blockbuster of all for starting pitcher Tarik Skubal.
