Trump and Lutnick say Taiwan will purchase 30% of natural gas produced by Alaska pipeline project

President Donald Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told a rally crowd in Alaska on Tuesday night that Taiwan has committed to investing in and purchasing 30% of the natural gas produced at a pipeline project in the state.
The president’s comments came during a campaign speech supporting Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and other down-ballot Republicans in Wasilla. Trump specifically noted that Sullivan has been working with the White House to drive foreign investments into the Alaska liquified natural gas pipeline “and all the other projects that will come with it.”

“Taiwan will also invest $4.4 billion into the project, on top of $50 billion already committed by South Korea to Alaska,” he told the crowd, referencing a September Oval Office event to announce a pipeline project backed by South Korea.
Later in the speech, Trump called Lutnick up to the stage, who again touted the Taiwanese investment.
“The president says to me, ‘Howard, you’ve got to make it better.’ So all week we were working with the Taiwanese government, and they agreed to buy 30% of everything produced on that line, and they will invest $4.4 billion on top of the Koreans to make sure this line gets filled, so thank you, Mr. President, for the greatest deal in the history of Alaska.”
