Shedeur Sanders Hit With Tough Prediction Before 2026 Season

New Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken revealed both quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson have been impressive through offseason activities.
“Whether it’s Shedeur, whether it’s Deshaun or whether it’s Dillon, our quarterback situation, you’ve got to find a way to write that,” Monken said. “I do think Deshaun and Shedeur had really good springs. I really believe it’s no better time to be the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.”
But who will ultimately land the starting job in Week 1?
NFL.com took a look at the quarterback battles from around the league and ultimately chose Watson as the likely Week 1 starter due to his vast experience and hefty price tag.
"Watson carries a $45 million cap hit in the final season of his five-year contract. He also, theoretically, has a franchise quarterback ceiling somewhere in his repertoire, nearly forgotten though it may be. The two spent time training together this summer, but barring an undeniable leap from Sanders in training camp, I think Watson gets the nod in Cleveland," NFL.com wrote .
While NFL.com chose Watson as the Week 1 starter, it also expects to see Sanders and rookie quarterback Taylen Green see significant action this season in what could be another lost season in Cleveland.
The Browns open the 2026 season against the Jaguars in Jacksonville on Sept. 13.
