Pirates Urged to Trade for Astros All-Star Infielder

The Pittsburgh Pirates are among the many teams in the National League fighting for a wild card spot, so there is a good chance that they will be buyers ahead of the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline.
One of their top needs heading toward the deadline is another high-impact infielder who performs well at the plate. Because of this, they are now being urged to make a move for an intriguing trade candidate from the Houston Astros .
In a recent article for The Athletic , Stephen J. Nesbitt urged the Pirates to trade for Astros star infielder Isaac Paredes ahead of the deadline.
"Acquiring Isaac Paredes would add some real right-handed thump to the lineup," Nesbitt wrote about the Pirates. "That’s Paredes’ whole thing, pulling balls in the air."
With the Pirates' infield needing a boost, it would make a lot of sense if they brought in a versatile player like Paredes. He would have the potential to be a strong addition to the middle of their lineup if acquired.
Paredes is having another solid season with the Astros, as evidenced his 15 home runs, 60 RBI, and .257 batting average in 104 games. This is after the two-time All-Star had 20 home runs, 53 RBI, and a .254 batting average in 102 games for Houston during the 2025 season. With numbers like these, he would give Pittsburgh's lineup some real pop if acquired, which is one of their top needs.
It will be interesting to see if the Pirates can land Paredes from the Astros before the deadline passes from here.
