It makes sense why the Minnesota Vikings decided to sign wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Wednesday, given the latest injuries to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. However, why was Beckham so interested in joining the Vikings?
He revealed it's because the team made him feel wanted, which is something he didn't feel during his second stint with the New York Giants.
“It seemed as if he wanted me to be here,” Beckham said of Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell . “And that was expressed to me. And that feels good. . . . It always feels better when you’re doing it for somebody who, you know, you feel like their heart is there for it as well.”
Beckham, 33, made the Giants 53-man roster and was on it for the first few weeks of the regular season. However, during that span, he recorded zero catches on just one target.
New York ultimately waived Beckham on Sep. 29, and he has been looking for his next opportunity since.
Beckham's return to the Giants seemed like a feel-good story at first, but that's clearly not how things played out, especially under an entirely new coaching staff run by head coach John Harbaugh.
The Vikings' addition of Beckham seems to be a win-win for both sides, though. The Vikings are looking to stay competitive while dealing with injuries to their wide receiver room and Beckham is looking to be a part of a winning team near the end of his professional career.
That's exactly what the Vikings are, too, as they sit in first place in the NFC North with a 4-0 record.
Beckham's first opportunity with Minnesota could come as soon as Week 5, when the Vikings head to New Orleans to take on the Saints.
A first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Beckham has recorded 575 catches for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns in his NFL career.
