Trump says Will Scharf will replace David Warrington as White House counsel in September

President Donald Trump said Sunday that White House Staff Secretary Will Scharf will replace David Warrington as Assistant to the President and White House Counsel.
“I know Will well!” Trump said . “He previously represented me in numerous cases, including at the Supreme Court, during the Biden Administration’s corrupt and illegal Weaponization. He also previously served as a Federal Prosecutor, worked as an attorney in private practice, clerked for two Federal Appeals Court Judges, and was a top student at both Princeton University and Harvard Law School. Will is Tough, Smart, and Strong!”
A longtime Trump ally, Scharf led the National Capital Planning Commission, which oversees Trump’s White House ballroom plans and the “triumphal arch” the president plans to build at the Virginia end of the Memorial Bridge in Washington, D.C . Scharf has been a visible member of the second Trump White House, known for delivering executive orders to the president for his signature.

Scharf was also featured in a New York Times report last month that revealed he warned the administration against suspending habeas corpus protections for illegal immigrants, a policy proposed by Stephen Miller, Trump’s deputy chief of staff for policy, arguing it would trigger a constitutional battle. Scharf, 40, ran unsuccessfully to become Missouri’s state attorney general in 2024.
White House chief of staff Susie Wiles congratulated Scharf on X and thanked Warrington for “his tenure as White House counsel, Trump-Vance campaign counsel, and Trump’s loyal attorney.” Warrington served as Trump’s personal attorney and general counsel for his 2024 campaign before being appointed counsel at the beginning of Trump’s second term.
“The White House Counsel’s Office helped deliver 24 Supreme Court victories and the confirmation of 54 judges,” Wiles said.
Trump said Warrington left the White House for a job in the private sector, though it is unclear what that role is.
