Bears' Kaden Davis is Looking Like a Reliable Depth Piece

Kaden Davis gave the Bears another reason to keep an eye on him during their preseason opener, turning in the kind of performance that can help a player climb the depth chart.
Davis is competing for a potential WR6 spot, assuming Chicago keeps that many receivers on the roster. Even if that spot doesn't end up being available, the competition could determine who sticks around on the practice squad.
On Saturday, Davis made the strongest case of the bunch. He finished with four catches for 88 yards, leading the Bears in receiving and showing that he can make plays when given the chance. His biggest reception went for 41 yards, giving him an easy highlight to point to when the Bears evaluate the preseason tape.
Davis also came up with a nice catch on a back-shoulder throw from Tyson Bagent. Those types of plays can mean a lot when players are fighting for limited roster spots, especially when the competition is this close.
There was one obvious blemish on the afternoon, as Davis did have a drop. Still, it didn't erase what was otherwise an encouraging performance.
This kind of game is what makes this competition worth watching as the preseason continues. Davis isn't simply putting together a few good practices. He's now starting to show that his strong work in camp can translate when the games get heated.
There's still a lot of time for the Bears to sort through their receiver room, and one preseason game won't decide everything. But Davis has put himself in a much better position than he was before Saturday. If he can keep making plays and clean up the drops, the Bears may have a legitimate depth option developing right in front of them.
