The Dallas Cowboys already had what was gearing up to be one of the best defenses in the NFL in 2026, headlined by Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, Rashan Gary, DeMarvion Overshown, DaRon Bland, and rookie first-round pick Caleb Downs. The one thing they were missing was another pass rusher who could consistently get after the quarterback. Then they landed future Hall of Famer Von Miller, with the Dallas native agreeing to a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Cowboys on Sunday.
Miller spoke candidly on Tuesday about the opportunity and what it meant to potentially end his historic NFL career with his hometown team. "It's really cool. It's like that movie 'Inception,' like it's a dream within a dream," Miller said. "I always wanted to play in the National Football League and, now, playing for the Dallas Cowboys, you're going deep into it. A dream within a dream. It's super cool, and I know a lot of guys here already, and I know a lot of the coaches, too. Being here is surreal, for sure."
Miller has spent 15 seasons in the NFL, including 10 with the Denver Broncos, three with the Buffalo Bills, one with the Los Angeles Rams, and last season with the Washington Commanders. Across 203 career games, he's recorded 607 combined tackles, 177 tackles for loss, 271 quarterback hits, 27 forced fumbles, and 138.5 sacks โ ninth-most all-time . He's earned eight Pro Bowl selections, four second-team All-Pro honors, three first-team All-Pro honors, two Super Bowl rings, and a Super Bowl MVP with the Broncos in Super Bowl 50.
While he may no longer be the elite edge rusher he once was, he's still productive. Despite turning 37 in March, he finished last season in Washington with 26 total tackles, six tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hits, and a team-high nine sacks across 17 games. He is, without question, a future first-ballot Hall of Famer โ and if this is his final NFL season, he'll get to end it in the city where he grew up.
