Darline Graham (R-S.C.) ahead of the state’s Republican runoff next week, when she’s set to face off against Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.).
Trump’s appearance comes as Graham faces scrutiny for a rough debate performance earlier this week, after which she was slammed over her lack of knowledge on national security issues.
Graham, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), was appointed last month by GOP Gov. Henry McMaster to fill out the remainder of her brother’s term. The political newcomer is relying heavily on the president’s endorsement to keep her seat in the upper chamber.
Prominent Palmetto State Republicans, many of whom also vied for the spot, are split between Graham and Norman. Rep. Russell Fry, who finished third in the initial primary , has backed the incumbent , while former Gov. Mark Sanford (R) has endorsed her challenger . The campaign stop will be in Myrtle Beach, S.C., which falls in Fry’s 7th Congressional District.
