08/02/2026 August 2, 2026 Trump claim that Tehran requested attack stop 'a new lie,' Iran says US President Donald Trump 's claim that Tehran had asked the US to hold off on new strikes was completely false, Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency said on Sunday.
Citing military officials, the agency said the claim "was nothing but a new lie" and that Iran's military was "on high alert and ready for any eventuality."
Trump said on Saturday that the US and Israel had agreed to refrain from new attacks he had threatened after requests "by Iran, and other Middle Eastern countries."

In a statement on Sunday, the Israeli military said it had identified several Hezbollah militants inside an area occupied by Israeli forces that Israel has designated as a "security zone." "Following the identification, the soldiers struck the terrorists and eliminated them in order to remove the threat," the military said in a statement.
An Israeli soldier sustained moderate injuries, the military said earlier.
Pro-Iran Hezbollah brought Lebanon into the wider Middle East conflict when it fired rockets at Israel on March 2 in reaction to the US, Israeli attacks on Iran.
That act triggered major Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion, with Israel continuing military operations deep into the south of Lebanon since then.
Under a US-sponsored framework agreement signed by Lebanon and Israel in late June , Lebanon's army is to disarm Hezbollah and the Israeli military is to withdraw from "pilot zones" inside Lebanon to be replaced by Lebanese forces.
Hezbollah, however, refuses to disarm, and there has been no timetable set for Israel's full withdrawal.
08/02/2026 August 2, 2026 Saudi crown prince calls for dialogue and de-escalation in call with Trump Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stressed "the necessity of prioritizing dialogue to de-escalate tensions" with Iran in a phone call with US President Donald Trump on Saturday, according to Saudi Arabia 's state news agency.
Increased calm "would pave the way for diplomatic solutions [...] and prevent a slide into a broader conflict with repercussions affecting regional and international security and stability," the agency said, apparently citing bin Salman, the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia .
The agency said that "the call also reviewed existing areas of cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance them."
The report confirms similar accounts in US media about a telephone call between the two, which came shortly before Trump said he would hold off on fresh attacks on Iran that he had threatened.

His message on Telegram came after US President Trump made his since-rescinded threats of fresh strikes, and also followed a call with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan.
In the post, Araghchi said the US, Israel and any Gulf states involved would bear full responsibility for any new attacks.
Tehran had already threatened military retaliation targeting critical infrastructure in Israel and Gulf countries after US media reports that Washington was thinking about major new strikes on Iranian targets, including energy sites.
Since the war began on February 28 with US-Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic , Iran has already often responded to any strikes by targeting Gulf states hosting US military bases.
08/02/2026 August 2, 2026 Trump says no new strikes on Iran if peace deal is reached soon US President Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States and Israel had agreed to refrain from carrying out threatened attacks on Iran under the condition that a peace deal with Tehran was reached quickly.
Trump said the US was "locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran," but that Tehran and other Middle Eastern countries had asked him not to carry out fresh strikes.
"Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
"The Country of Israel joins me in this commitment. Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE," he added.
His remarks come after he on Friday threatened to hit Iran "very hard," with reports saying US attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure were being considered.
