Senate Republican: Max Miller 'shouldn't be in office'

Max Miller (R-Ohio), who is facing calls to step down over allegations of abusing his ex-wife Emily Moreno, should not be serving in the House.
“First off, he shouldn’t be in office, right?” Scott told MeidasTouch’s Pablo Manríquez in a brief interview. “And everybody should be held accountable.”
Scott would not say whether Miller should resign, suggesting to Manríquez that the “best thing is the public’s going to take them out of office.” Asked specifically about the accusations toward Miller by his former wife, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), the Florida Republican said the lawmaker “ought to be very transparent” and “let the voters make a decision.”
Several GOP senators have rallied together in calling for Miller’s resignation . Manríquez similarly asked Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), who described working with survivors of abuse and helping women and their families, if Miller should step down.
“Based upon what I know, yes,” Marshall said. “Have I heard his side of the story? No, I have not, but I certainly trust Bernie and his family. [They’re] such a good family, I’ve met quite a few of them. They have such high values.”
He also told Politico that Miller “should resign. He should quit.” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) told the outlet that she does not know Miller, “but if [Moreno] thinks he ought to resign, I’m supportive of that.”
“The accusations are very serious, and if there is truth to them, I am one who says that our elected officials need to be held to high standards,” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) told Politico. “And certainly, when it comes to allegations of domestic abuse, child abuse, that’s not what we want in our lawmakers.”
Allies of President Trump have called on him to encourage Miller to let go of his reelection bid ahead of Wednesday’s deadline for his name to appear on the ballot, four people familiar with the matter told CNN .
Miller, a former Trump campaign aide, has denied any wrongdoing in connection with the allegations. He told The Wall Street Journal on Monday that he recently spoke on the phone with the president, who Miller said was “very supportive” of him.
“He kept on reiterating it’s going to be tough, and it’s going to be a really hard one for you,” Miller told the outlet.
Trump praised the embattled lawmaker when taking questions from reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, emphasizing the claims against Miller were merely accusations.
“It’s a very sad thing,” Trump said. “I know Max. He’s a good person. I mean, I always thought he was a very good person, and I’m going to let the families figure that out.”
Emily Moreno has accused Miller of throwing hot water on her, holding a gun to her head and breaking their daughter’s collarbone. She filed a restraining order against him as the two are locked in a custody battle over their young daughter.
Her father on Sunday also called on Miller to step aside, saying that he fails “any basic standards of character required to hold elected office.”
“I believe Max Miller needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake,” he said. “I believe he should not be free to continue endangering others until he does.”
