Saints Coach Drops Concerning Update on WR Jordyn Tyson

Jordyn Tyson was the New Orleans Saints ' first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. He entered the league as arguably the best wide receiver in his class, alongside fellow first-rounders Carnell Tate and Makai Lemon. Landing with the Saints, the belief was that he'd form a dynamic one-two punch alongside Chris Olave, giving quarterback Tyler Shough two true game-changers on the outside.
Instead, it looks like the Saints' star rookie might not even be available when Week 1 rolls around in a few weeks.
Head coach Kellen Moore told reporters Friday that Tyson will miss time due to a hamstring injury suffered earlier in the week. He failed to give a firm timetable for his return, but noted that the issue "could" linger into the regular season.
"We've just got to let these experts evaluate this, and then we'll put together a plan," Moore said. "Not going to jump to conclusions. I don't have a doctor in front of my name, so I'm not going to jump to put together a timeline on it."
Tyson reportedly injured his right hamstring during Thursday's joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars, landing awkwardly after going up for a catch early in the session. He was helped off the field and didn't return to practice.
A hamstring injury is far from ideal for any wide receiver. These are the types of injuries that can drag on and be easily reaggravated if a player returns too soon. They're notoriously unpredictable, and players sometimes have to return to the sideline even after being cleared, believing the injury was fully healed when it wasn't.
It's an even greater concern given Tyson's injury history. Over his college career, split between Colorado and Arizona State, he dealt with numerous injuries, including a serious knee injury in 2022, a broken collarbone in 2024, and multiple hamstring strains during his final season at Arizona State in 2025. Last year's hamstring issues caused him to miss the final few games of the Sun Devils' season, as well as the NFL Combine and Arizona State's Pro Day.
That injury history was reportedly one of the biggest concerns teams had about Tyson entering the draft, but the Saints clearly felt confident enough in his talent to take him eighth overall. Now, unfortunately, it looks like they may have spent a top-10 pick on a player who could miss the start of his rookie season.
