Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), crushed Democrat Alex Vindman for a chance to run against Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) to fill out the last two years of Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s term. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) prevailed in a crowded primary for a newly reshaped, plurality-Black seat.
Trump had a mixed scorecard Tuesday night, with Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) cruising to the nomination for GOP gubernatorial candidate, among other wins. But Trump’s endorsed candidates suffered losses in two Florida House races and the Wyoming governor’s race. Read more takeaways here .
Trump told reporters on Wednesday that the U.S. and Canada have reached an agreement on tariffs, with conditions. “So subject to the finalization of documents, we have a deal with Canada, and I think it’s a very good deal for both parties,” he said.
He announced late Tuesday he would pause the 50 percent tariffs on many Canadian goods for three days amid negotiations. The tariffs were expected to go into effect at midnight Wednesday.
At the White House, the president will meet with crypto and financial leaders, along with regulatory agency chiefs, in the afternoon. The huddle comes as the Senate has delayed action on the Clarity Act, which would create a regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency sector, until it returns next month. But one sector was shut out of the meeting : prediction markets.
