President Trump “will host an event with tech leaders tomorrow to strengthen America’s innovative and technological dominance,” a White House official told Politico.
A White House official told The Hill the prediction market executives were not invited.
Reports had previously said prediction market executives would be in attendance.
A person familiar with the event told The Hill that the White House “decided to focus the event solely on crypto.”
The Hill has reached out to Polymarket for comment.
Some crypto CEOs who will be in attendance include Ripple’s Brad Garlinghouse and Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong, according to NewsNation.
The event is being viewed as a kickoff for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Innovation Advisory Committee, Politico reported.
The CFTC will host the committee’s first meeting on Thursday.
“For years, anti-crypto armies, doomers, and decelerationists stifled innovation, regulating by enforcement and driving transformational technologies like blockchain, AI, and prediction markets overseas,” CFTC Chair Michael Selig wrote on social media .
“On August 20, the @CFTC is turning the page and charting a course for the new frontier of finance as innovators, builders, thinkers, and entrepreneurs descend upon Washington for the inaugural meeting of the Innovation Advisory Committee,” he added.
The president has backed prediction markets before.
He said in May that “it is critically important that the CFTC’s exclusive authority over Prediction Markets is maintained, and that they will thrive.”
His post on Truth Social came after several lawsuits were leveled against states for attempting to either ban or regulate betting markets.
“Other Countries are after this new form of Financial Market, and we want to remain at the top. Likewise, and even more importantly, where we are currently the Crypto (Bitcoin, etc.) Capital of the World, other Countries are trying diligently to replace us in that capacity, but we won’t let that happen,” he wrote at the time.
“It is a major Industry, and we must protect it,” he added.
