The Kansas City Chiefs may have won against their AFC West rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders , 30โ27 on Sunday, but the team lost two of their offensive stars to injuries.
First, Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice left in the first quarter with a hamstring injury. Then, in the fourth quarter, wide receiver Tyquan Thornton suffered a gruesome ankle injury while attempting to score a touchdown. Thornton was having a career game as he posted 111 yards and two touchdowns in the contest, but it ended with a rough injury outlook for the rising star.
Thornton recorded a 55-yard play before being tackled. He went to stand up, then realized his ankle was facing the wrong direction. He immediately fell to the ground in pain.
Thornton received attention on the field before being carted off to the locker room. He pointed to the fans as he headed to the locker room.
It was an unfortunate injury for Thornton, especially as he was blossoming as one of Patrick Mahomes's top receivers.
The Chiefs could be in a rough position in the coming weeks depending what the diagnoses are for Rice and Thornton after Sunday's game. The 4โ0 Chiefs don't need any unfortunate injury news, but it looks like at least Thornton will miss some time.
Kansas City will rely more on receivers Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals if Rice and Thornton have to miss any time. Of course, too, Mahomes will utilize his tight end Travis Kelce when necessary. Otherwise, the Chiefs may change their game plan to being more focused on the run game as Kenneth Walker III has quickly become the biggest offensive weapon on the ground in Kansas City. Walker rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday.
Luckily for the Chiefs, Week 5 is their bye week, meaning their injured players will have two weeks of rest before returning to the field on Sunday, Oct. 18 versus the Los Angeles Chargers.
