Lindsay Clancy can't handle another trial, her lawyer says

“She had a flat affect — she’s sad,” attorney Kevin Reddington told reporters Tuesday, describing her demeanor during the current trial.
When asked whether Clancy could emotionally handle another trial, the New York Post reported that Reddington told reporters, “No.”
On Tuesday, the jury in Clancy’s trial told the court they were deadlocked , raising the possibility the case could end with a hung jury — and a possible retrial. A judge has ordered them to continue deliberating .
Clancy, 35, has admitted to killing her three children. The jurors are responsible for determining whether she should be held criminally responsible for their deaths or found not guilty because she was suffering postpartum psychosis.
Throughout the trial, proceedings were repeatedly paused because Clancy became overwhelmed. On the day two medical examiners testified about her children’s autopsies, Clancy broke down, saying aloud, “I can’t do this.”
If the jury still can’t agree on a verdict, prosecutors and the defense could strike a plea deal instead of going through another full trial.
It’s also possible to restructure a future trial. Reddington had asked in March to split any retrial into two separate phases: one to decide whether Clancy committed the killings, and a second to decide whether she should be held responsible, given her mental state at the time. A judge turned that request down before Clancy’s official trial began, but criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos told NewsNation’s Brian Entin that Reddington could have a better shot at getting the request approved if the case has to be retried.
