Two US service members killed in Jordan after breakdown of Iran ceasefire

Two United States service members were killed in Jordan during Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks, U.S. Central Command said on Saturday.
“On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in action as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks,” CENTCOM wrote . “Additionally, one service member is currently missing in action.”
Four service members have been transported to hospitals in Jordan and have since been discharged, CENTCOM added.
“Out of respect for the families, CENTCOM will withhold additional information, including the identities of the fallen warriors, until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified,” officials added.
Iran’s Supreme Leader threatened on Saturday that the United States would face “unforgettable lessons” if it continued attacking the Islamic Republic and declared President Donald Trump’s signature “worthless and invalid.”
The remarks came hours after an Iranian negotiator announced Tehran was suspending its commitments under the interim agreement signed roughly a month ago. The statement was attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei and read on state television. Khamenei has not been seen since the war began.
The strike in Jordan comes after seven consecutive days of U.S. attacks on Iran following the collapse of a U.S.-brokered peace deal earlier this week. U.S. Central Command said on Friday evening that its forces targeted surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage facilities, and maritime capabilities, using fighter aircraft, drones, warships, and other military assets.
Trump, meanwhile, said the now-defunct memorandum of understanding was intended only to gauge Tehran’s willingness to negotiate.
“It was built to test. It was a test,” Trump told radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday. “We didn’t know if it would amount to anything. It didn’t.”
Trump added that memorandums of understanding carry little weight, particularly in negotiations with Iran.
Trump announced on Monday through Truth Social that the United States was “reinstating THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE” and declared that “the U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as ‘THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT.’”
