On Monday, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay announced that third round draft pick, offensive tackle Keagen Trost would miss a few weeks with a hamstring injury.
With the Rams' season opener coming in exactly three weeks time, this put his availability for the season opener very much in doubt.
However, per his comments on Thursday, it appears that the rookie is on track travel with the team to Australia for their first game of the 2026 season against the San Francisco 49ers, per Nate Atkins.
"Sean McVay said theyβre hopeful Keagan Trost can be back before Week 1 in Australia. Tough setback for a rookie, but the hope is itβs temporary. If heβs not back by then, David Quessenberry should be the swing tackle." Atkins wrote on X on Thursday.
Atkins' comments imply that Trost will be the swing tackle behind Alaric Jackson and Warren McClendon, who impressed in his 10 starts last season replacing the injured and now-retired right tackle Rob Havenstein.
As a third round pick, Trost's participation on the final 53-man roster has never been in doubt. But given his strong performances in training camp that have seen him obtain reps with both the 1s and 2s β on multiple sides of the line β Trost is pretty clearly in the driver's seat to win that OT3 role.
And it could be that Trost is thrown into the fire far earlier than one might otherwise imagine, with Jackson facing a possible suspension early on in the coming season after getting arrested for a domestic violence charge back in June .
