A mother from Frankfort, Illinois has been accused of killing her two-year-old son, after reportedly developing a fascination with the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.
Corie A. Walsh was found inside her home on Tuesday afternoon when Frankfort police responded to a report of an unresponsive child. The child was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead, with Walsh also transported to treat non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital.
Walsh, listed as 40 years old by Frankfort police, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, and is currently “in custody and being held for medical treatment,” according to a release from the Village of Frankfort Police Department.
Recently released court documents revealed the scenes officers encountered at the large Brook Stone Court home in suburban Frankfort.
"When officers arrived, a neighbor was performing CPR on a toddler, later identified as two-year-old Barrett Walsh, born March 26, 2024," read one, cited by NBC Chicago .
Another excerpt quoted by CBS News said that Walsh’s son was found “hanging in the basement on a device from a rafter.” Walsh allegedly told police she had murdered her son because he was the “anti-Christ,” according to prosecutors.
Newsweek has contacted an attorney for Walsh and the Frankfort Police Department for comment outside of regular working hours.
Further details were included in a petition seeking to deny Walsh pretrial release, in which prosecutors said the suspect had "become very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.”
The trial of Clancy—accused of murdering her three children in early 2023—has garnered national attention in recent weeks, and ended in a mistrial on Friday .
The defense argued that Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis—including auditory hallucinations—whereas prosecutors said she was in control and therefore was criminally responsible for her actions.
Walsh "had been actively discussing the case via group text message with her friends," until shortly before the death of her son, prosecutors said. Many commenters have suggested some connection and a copycat motive.
Frankfort police said officers responded to a call at 22700 block of Brook Stone Court at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday. When they arrived, officers said they found a neighbor who was attempting to perform CPR on Walsh’s son, Barrett. Three other children were found “unharmed” at the home, police said.
The child was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox but was pronounced dead at 4:48 p.m., according to the Will County Coroner’s Office, which said this was the result of an apparent homicide.
“The Frankfort Police Department and the Will Grundy Major Crimes task force are investigating the incident,” a statement from the coroner’s office read. “An autopsy was performed on Wednesday September 2, 2026. Final cause and manner will be determined following autopsy, police and toxicological reports.”
Booking records show three counts of first-degree murder for Walsh, who will beheld at the Will County Adult Detention Facility once medically cleared, and set to appear before Judge Amy Bertani Tomczak on Tuesday morning, September 8.
