Apple has changed the label on Lake Ontario to " Lake America ," according to an Axios review of Apple Maps on Tuesday afternoon.
Why it matters: Apple is the second major digital map provider to make the switch. Google did so over the weekend โ at least for those in the United States.
Driving the news: President Trump had reportedly asked Apple to make the switch last week, Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum told Fox Business on Monday.
Zoom out: It's unclear if Apple took a stance similar to Google, which updated the name for addresses in the United States. Canadian users will see Lake Ontario if their site provider has switched its location settings to Canada.
Zoom in: Google said it made the switch because the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) had updated its maps, and Google follows those guidelines "to reflect name changes in official government sources."
Worth noting: MapQuest, another digital map provider in the U.S., said it will not be changing the lake's name.
