The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers kick off the 2026 preseason with their Hall of Fame Game clash on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC, and Week 1 of the preseason officially kicks off the following week on Aug. 13.
As we count down the days until the start of the NFL regular season — which kicks off with a Super Bowl LX rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots on “Sunday Night Football” on Sept. 9 — we continue to look at key offseason storylines for each of the league’s 32 teams.
This week, we’re looking as the players most in danger of being cut during the preseason, and we’ve arrived at the Los Angeles Chargers .
Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, Tre’ Harris, and rookie Brenen Thompson appear to be the Chargers’ top four wideouts heading into camp, meaning there’s likely one, maybe two WR spots up for grabs with Sincere Brown, Dalevon Campbell, Derius Davis, Luke Grimm, JaQuae Jackson, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Mante Morrow, and Devonte Ross all competing for it.
Davis has been with the Chargers for three years and hasn’t recorded more than 15 catches or 112 yards in any season. Though he’s still young at 25, it may be time for some new blood in L.A.’s WR room.
The Chargers have a surplus of defensive tackles, and clearly some are going to have to go. Justin Eboigbe and Jamaree Caldwell seem like locks based on what they did last year, but after adding veteran Dalvin Tomlinson and rookies Nick Barrett, Jahmeer Carter, Jacobian Guillory II, and Terry Webb, it may be time for an infusion of youth along the D-line.
Tart will be 30 before next season ends, and he doesn’t particularly standout when he’s on the field. His time in Los Angeles may have ran its course.
A former first-round pick, Dupree was once a feared pass-rusher who found ways to wreak havoc it the backfield. Buthe hasn’t come close to double-digit sacks in six years, and at age 33, it might be time for the Chargers to find a younger replacement.
The team drafted Miami edge-rusher Akheem Mesidor in the first round in April, and with Tuli Tuipulotu’s emergence last year plus Khalil Mack’s presence, Dupree may be on the chopping block.
