Justice Roberts Says Trump Ballroom Build 'Likely Unlawful' Amid Approval

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts said that construction at the White House under President Donald Trump is "likely unlawful," pointing to the lack of congressional approval for the $400 million ballroom project.
The 5-4 decision overturned a lower-court order that had halted above-ground construction, Reuters reported. Roberts was joined by the three liberal justices in his dissent.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation has challenged the project, arguing numerous aspects of the construction.
The ruling does not decide whether the ballroom itself is legal, the order says. Construction can continue while the broader legal fight proceeds, with the administration arguing the project is necessary for security and is funded through private donations rather than taxpayer money.
