49ers' Brock Purdy Drops Truth Bomb Ahead of Season Opener vs Rams

The San Francisco 49ers head into 2026 under real pressure to finally get over the hump. For all the success this franchise has had under Kyle Shanahan, they still haven't won a Super Bowl since 1994. With multiple future Hall of Famers on the roster, including George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams, Fred Warner, and Nick Bosa, that's simply not good enough.
The 49ers recognized as much and brought in another all-time great, signing star receiver Mike Evans to a three-year deal. But their road to the Super Bowl won't be easy, primarily because they play in the toughest division in the NFL : the NFC West.
The Cardinals may be in rebuild mode, but having to face the defending champion Seahawks and Super Bowl favorite Rams twice a year is brutal. Still, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy recognizes the challenge and isn't backing down from it.
"We have an extremely competitive, great division. I think the best in the NFL," Purdy said. "And that excites us because you got to be your best at every moment, every play, every drive. Every game matters, every little thing matters. It all adds up, and we even saw it last year."
"We got a good group of guys that care for each other. We play the right way. We stand for the right things. And so it's on us to put in the work and be prepared week in and week out and get the thing done," Purdy added.

Seattle may have lost Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker and offensive mastermind Klint Kubiak, but the Seahawks are still the defending champions for a reason. Sam Darnold proved he can lead a high-powered offense, Jaxon Smith-Njigba proved he might be the best receiver in football, and the defense is loaded with elite talent, including Devon Witherspoon, Nick Emmanwori, Ernest Jones IV, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Leonard Williams.
The Rams, meanwhile, are coming off a 12-win season behind league MVP Matthew Stafford, still boast one of the best receiver tandems in football in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, and have an All-Pro running back in Kyren Williams. As if that wasn't enough, they've since added two future Hall of Famers on defense in Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald. Add that to a unit that already includes Byron Young, Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske, and Trent McDuffie, and this defense is legitimately frightening.
But the 49ers can't be slept on either. They also won 12 games last season — and that was with Bosa missing most of the year with a torn ACL, Warner missing most of the year with a dislocated and broken ankle, and Kittle tearing his Achilles in the playoffs. McCaffrey remains one of the best running backs in football, Evans is still one of the best wideouts of his generation, and Purdy remains one of the league's most efficient quarterbacks.
Any game between these three teams this season will be must-see TV. Fortunately, fans won't have to wait long to see the first matchup — the 49ers kick off the season against the Rams in Melbourne, Australia, next Thursday (U.S. time).
