Braves Named Best Trade Fit for Tigers All-Star Starter

With the Atlanta Braves being at the top of the NL East standings, it is clear that they will be buyers at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline.
One of the Braves' top objectives ahead of the deadline should be to improve their pitching rotation. Because of this, they are being viewed as a prime trade fit for an interesting pitcher from the Detroit Tigers .
In a recent article for CBS Sports , Mike Axisa named the Braves as the best trade fit for Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize.
"If the Tigers trade Skubal, something that seems increasingly likely, they might as well trade Casey Mize too," Axisa wrote. "He's another rental. The Braves really need another starter to buttress a rotation that is counting a little too much on Bryce Elder and Martin Perez these days."
With the Braves needing pitching help, it would make all the sense in the world for them to make a trade for a high-impact starter like Mize. He would have the potential to be a strong addition to the front half of their rotation as they look to go on a run this postseason.
With Mize being a pending free agent, there is a real chance that the Tigers will end up making him available for trade ahead of the deadline. Due to this, the Braves would be very wise to make a push for him. The fit looks very good on paper.
In 16 appearances this season with the Tigers, Mize has a 4-6 record, a 2.70 ERA, and 85 strikeouts. This is after he had a 14-6 record, a 3.87 ERA, and 139 strikeouts during his All-Star campaign in 2025.
