08/03/2026 August 3, 2026 Trump calls Iran's leaders 'duplicitous,' tells them to make deal or surrender US President Donald Trump lashed out at Iran, criticizing it for seeking to work directly with Oman on a solution to the backlog in the Strait of Hormuz.
"Iranian Leadership is unbelievably duplicitous! They ask for a meeting, some would say 'beg,' talks begin, with more scheduled in the immediate future, and they say, openly and proudly, that they’re not having any discussions, that nothing is being talked about, and they’re only dealing with "Oman,'" Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
It was unclear why Trump put Oman in quotation marks, but the remarks come after Iran announced it was negotiating a joint temporary shipping corridor with Oman.
Trump asserted, however, that the Strait of Hormuz is "already completely controlled by the United States Navy" and the blockade it has imposed on it.
"Nothing gets through to Iran, unless we want it to, and nothing will get through, unless a Deal, or Total Surrender, is accomplished," Trump wrote.
The US president also again vowed that Iran would not obtain a nuclear weapon.

08/03/2026 August 3, 2026 Tehran: Iran and Oman plan new route for Strait of Hormuz vessels Dmytro Hubenko Editor Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the country is negotiating a joint temporary shipping corridor in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz with Oman.
According to the state news agency IRNA the idea would involve a circular route rather than several separate lanes until a final arrangement was reached.
The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump announced a new round of talks with Iranian representative.
Under the plan, tankers or cargo ships would enter the Strait of Hormuz on a northern route through Iranian territorial waters.
After calling at ports in Iran or in Arab Gulf states, the ships would use a southern route through Omani territorial waters for the return journey.

08/03/2026 August 3, 2026 Iran hangs two convicted of espionage Iran says it executed two men on Monday after they were convicted of spying for Israel.
It is the latest in a series of hangings on espionage allegations carried out by Tehran since the start of the war with Israel and the US in late February.
"Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat were hanged this morning for transmitting the coordinates of sensitive military and security sites to Mossad agents," said Mizan, the media outlet for Iran's judiciary.
Mossad is Israel's foreign intelligence service.
"They helped the intelligence services achieve their objectives by providing them with information on military and security centres during the war," Mizan added.
Executions in Iran as a whole have risen since the war broke out.
According to Amnesty International and several other rights groups, the country carries out the second-highest number of executions in the world, after China.
At least 1,639 people were executed in Iran last year, a record high since 1989, according to the Norway-based NGO Iran Human Rights and Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM), which has its headquarters in Paris.

08/03/2026 August 3, 2026 No current talks with US — Iranian Foreign Ministry Timothy Jones | Saim Dušan Inayatullah Editor Iran is not currently conducting talks with the US, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Monday, adding that it is, however, in discussions with Oman about a temporary safe route through the Strait of Hormuz .
The remarks by ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei came after US President Donald Trump said new talks with Iran on a peace deal were set to begin on Monday.
"We are not currently negotiating with the United States. Our negotiations are with Oman to secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz," Baghaei said during a weekly press briefing.
He added that a deal with Oman would not be enough to reopen the strait for commercial shipping, as the situation would stay unchanged if the US continued with its "aggression."
