Prefer the Guardian on Google Federal agents shot an individual in New York City on Thursday, according to the New York police department (NYPD).
The individual was conscious and taken to a hospital, the NYPD said in a brief statement .
The NYPD has not specified which federal agency carried out the shooting, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not immediately respond to an inquiry on Thursday evening.
The shooting took place at around 4pm in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx. The NYPD said they were not on the scene at the time of the shooting.
Witness video appeared to show several agents in the middle of the street in the aftermath, with one armed and another restraining a man on the ground, the New York Times reported. The City Reporter, a local news outlet, said video showed chaos after the shooting, with a crowd gathered and NYPD officers appearing to carry a man into the back of a vehicle.
Kathy Hochul, New Yorkβs Democratic governor, said in a short statement that she had been briefed on the shooting, writing : βWe expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident. New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why.β
