LeBron James finally announced his highly-anticipated NBA free agency decision on Friday, signing with the Philadelphia 76ers ahead of his historic 24th NBA season.
This decision sent shockwaves around the sporting world, prompting a wide variety of reactions.
WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark was on the podium for an All-Star Weekend interview when the news of James' decision broke on Friday.
"No way! I just pitched him for the Pacers. It didn't get to him fast enough," Clark said. "Selfishly I wanted the Warriors, because Steph [Curry] and Bron would've been insane together. But they have some serious talent on the 76ers. Arguably maybe one of the favorites in the East now. I thought he was going to go either Miami or Cleveland, so that's really shocking.
"I'll be watching more 76ers games. Obviously I'm a big fan of Bron's. So no matter where he was going to go, I was going to cheer for that team."
James now joins a Philadelphia roster featuring Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. As mentioned by Clark, the 76ers are now one of the clear favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference.
Clark is in the midst of yet another impressive WNBA campaign, averaging 21 points and 7.9 assists per game as the Indiana Fever's All-Star point guard. Just last week, she became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 40 points and 10 assists in a single game.
