Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Jalapeños Grows to 27 States—What to Know

An ongoing multistate outbreak of salmonella linked to jalapeños served at Chipotle restaurants has been expanded to 27 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC ) has said.
The CDC said the jalapeños were distributed by California-based Coast Citrus Distributors after being imported from Mexico. They were served at Chipotle, Qdoba and several other restaurants.
At least 36 people have been hospitalized, though no deaths have been reported.
Chipotle said Tuesday that it had removed jalapeños from its menu “out of an abundance of caution.” Qdoba followed on Wednesday, saying it had “proactively removed jalapeños from all our restaurants.”
According to the CDC, neither chain poses an ongoing risk because the affected jalapeños are no longer being served.
