According to the nonpartisan election handicapper Cook Political Report, the seat leans solidly Republican. If he wins later this year, he will succeed Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.), who is running for Senate.
Gray has supported the false claim that widespread fraud occurred in the 2020 election , making a trip to Arizona to view a partisan audit of the presidential election results in 2021. He won his state’s Republican primary for secretary of State in 2022 with President Trump’s backing.
The Wisconsin secretary of State ran in the Republican primary to push out former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) a few years ago, but dropped his campaign after Trump backed Hageman.
Former state Senate Minority Leader Lisa F. Kinney is projected to win the Democratic nomination Tuesday.
