The last round of the championship is set to be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., not far from the Big Apple — which is currently experiencing air quality issues created by wildfires in Canada . Trump is also expected to attend the game Sunday and hand out the trophy to the winner.
The appearance comes just weeks after the president sparked controversy by weighing in on a red card issued to the U.S. team during its match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the call was ultimately reversed. The U.S. was later kicked out of the tournament after losing to Belgium.
The event at Trump Tower is scheduled to begin at 5:20 p.m. EDT.
