Tuesday’s race has laid bare deep divides within the Democratic Party and its dueling factions. El-Sayed secured support from left-wing leaders, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), while Steven is backed by Peters as well as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.)
